The Edna Bennett Pierce Society
Since 1985, Shadowbrook has been home to the Delaware Chapter's annual WVU Family Picnic, held in July at this sprawling 150 acre estate. On Saturday night January 15, many of us had our first opportunity to see and experience this wonderful, historic home framed by the beauty of snow and wintry conditions.
WVU alumni, friends and their guests were treated to a wonderful evening of hospitality, exceptional food and drink, and warm Mountaineer fellowship at the eleven bedroom mansion. Several large fireplaces were roaring, the food was exquisite, drinks were flowing and the rooms were filled with warm Mountaineer fellowship.
The occasion was to honor the Founding Members of the Edna Bennett Pierce Society, a group of donors who have pledged sustaining gifts to the DJ and Bob Gibson Scholarship Fund.
The DJ and Bob Gibson Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to a deserving WVU student from Delaware.
A list of founding members of the Edna Bennett Pierce Society can be found elsewhere on this website. We are thankful for their commitment, which is especially remarkable in that we are living through very difficult economic times.
Several donors were not able to be in attendance at the Jamuary 15 event, however many braved the cold weather and slippery roads to show their love and support for West Virginia University. One couple, Carol and Perry Psaros, travelled 2.5 hours from their home in Bethany Beach, DE to attend the function!
Edna and Bud Pierce are extraordinarily humble and kind people, living a purposeful life; built with a rigidly strong faith and the belief that they have been blessed with gifts from their maker. They are strong believers in the power of education. All of us at the Delaware Chapter cherish their friendship, and give thanks for all they have done and continue to do for West Virginia University.
